GENERAL RULES

Please use the entry blank on the back of the Premium Book, or make a similar blank on a plain sheet of paper, and fill in your entries with the correct lot number, and in numerical order if possible, or as near as possible. Hand this to the entry clerk as it will speed up the registering of entries. The correct LOT NUMBER is very important, as only the numbers are checked during judging. If there are any questions concerning your entry, see the respective superintendent, and he/she will assist you.

 

  1. All entries non-animal (except flower) must be made on July 16th, between 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. Flower entries will be taken on Thursday July 17th between 7am and 1pm. Livestock must be entered on July 17th , between 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in Civic Center.

 2. Each exhibitor is allowed only one entry per lot number except animal entries.

 3. The judging of open class exhibits at the Fair will commence at 9:00 a.m., July 17th.

  4. Persons who desire space on grounds must apply for same to Secretary.

 5. Entries for premiums in the individual lots of grain, field seed, fruits, and forage, shall not be permitted to appear as parts of collections.

  6. No article or animal shall compete for more than one premium except livestock competing in teams or groups, 4-H animals or FFA animals. This rule shall not debar sweepstakes or special premium competition for which no entry is required.

  7. Stock and articles must be entered in the name of the bona fide owners and grain, vegetables, fruit dairy products and domestic manufacturers must have been raised or made by the exhibitors thereof during the past year.

  8. Every article in competition must correspond in number and description  with the premium list and be in its proper place in order to obtain premiums. No change or alteration will be permitted after the books are placed in the hands of the judges.

  9. No animal or article will be assigned a place on the grounds until entry shall have been made.

  10. Each entry tag shall be securely attached to the entry itself or the stall pen or receptacle in which it is shown.

 11. All articles entered are to remain on exhibition until 8:00 p.m. on the last day of the fair, except for animals, which can leave at 6:00 p.m.

 12. No article or animal on exhibit will be permitted to be taken away before the above hours under penalty or forfeiture of premiums, except by permission of the fair secretary.

 13. Exhibition of articles not competing for premium must be arranged for at the Secretary's Office and will be arranged in so far as possible in conformity with the wishes of the exhibitor.

 14. Ample accommodations will be provided for all collections. No collection which is not neatly arranged and completely labeled will be allowed space. A duplication of varieties in any collection shall debar the collection from prize money. Standard varieties will be given preference.

  15. Those in charge of different divisions shall conveniently group each lot in the various classes.

  16. The Association will take every precaution in its power for the preservation of articles and stock on exhibition, but cannot be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur in the delivery, exhibition or removal of the exhibits.

  17. The Kanabec County Agricultural Society reserves to its Board the final and absolute right to interpret these rules and regulations and settle and determine all, questions or differences arising there from.

  18. Police oversight & night caretakers will be provided, but the Society serves notice that it will not be held responsible for damage of property by water, fire, theft or otherwise; and it will not be responsible for or assume any liability for personal injury which may occur to any exhibitor or visitor while attending the Fair.

  19.   All articles of every description entered at the Fair must appear in their respective classes as set forth in the premium list. Under no condition will cash premiums be paid on articles not so listed.

  20. In case special awards are made they will be awarded place of merit, provided the judges so desire.

 21. When there is but one exhibitor and article or animal, and is not deemed worthy of first premium, the judge in his discretion may place an award of second prize on such article or animal.

 22. No one, including exhibitors, will be allowed to sleep on the fair grounds without previous permission from the Secretary.

 23. Any person or group that conducts a protest action must limit it’s activity to the location designated by the Kanabec County Agriculture Society Board of Directors.  The designated location is that grassy area to the south of the Union St exit and east of the small parking area next to Lions park. 

 24. Any accident on the fairgrounds must be reported immediately to the Fair Office

  25. The fair board reserves the right to disallow an offensive exhibit.

 

AWARDS

  1.  The Superintendent of the Division or some other person appointed shall assist the awarding committee as clerk, and shall keep record of the awards made. This record when completed, shall be signed by the awarding committee and returned to the Secretary.

  2.  Awards on entries shall be designated as follows:

    First          Blue

    Second     Red

    Third        White

 3. All awards shall be made by comparison of the individual merits of the entries.

 4. Any interference by exhibitors to influence or dictate the decision of the judges will be sufficient cause for excluding his or her entry from competition and should be reported to the Secretary through the Division Superintendents.

 5. No appeal from the decision of the awarding committee shall be allowed. An exhibitor may make protest to the Superintendent of the Division at the time of award, who may then require the judges to give reasons for such placing.

 6. No awarding committee shall award any discretionary premiums. Whenever articles of superior merit are exhibited for which no premiums have been offered, the awarding committee may enter the same as "commended" on the book of awards so that the Secretary may report the same to the Board for future action.

 7. Premiums will not be awarded on articles of inferior merit, regardless of the number in competition for a premium. The judge may award no premium, second, or first premium as merit may warrant, stating the reasons in writing when requested.

 8. When a sum of premium money is to be paid out pro-rata, the appointment shall be according to the merits of the individual exhibits.

 9. Special premiums may be offered by interested persons for entries, which conform to the general classification of the Fair Association.

 10. No person will be allowed to distribute advertising material on the fairgrounds, except from their place of business or exhibit. The tacking or posting of any advertisements, bills, cards, etc., other than within the space occupied by exhibitors, is strictly prohibited. The distribution of handbills, flyers, heralds, etc., will not, under any circumstances, be permitted.

 11. The Society does hereby give notice that it will not be held responsible for loss or damage to property belonging to exhibitors or to anyone in attendance at the Fair. When Premium Awards exceed the sum appropriated by the State, the amount will be pro-rated in each individual award. All premium checks not cashed within thirty (30) days after issue date will be considered null and void.

  

LIVESTOCK ENTRIES

 

  1. All parties desiring to enter stock for premium or for exhibit, should notify the secretary in order to have stalls and pens' reserved. The secretary reserves the right to decide how many head can be entered by each exhibitor, depending on space available.

 2. Judges of cattle, sheep and hogs will have regard to symmetry, early maturity, size and general characteristics of the breeds to which they belong; they will make proper allowance for age, feeding and other circumstances affecting character and condition of the animal and also may require satisfactory proof of facts.

 3. Exhibitors of livestock must report to the Barn Superintendent in charge by 9:30 a.m. each day for orders. They must also inform themselves, from the Superintendent of the division when their stock will be judged and must be on hand to lead the animals into the show ring promptly after being called. Any person failing to comply with this order will be ruled out from competing.

 4. All animals must be shown in the name of the recorded owner as shown on the Registration Certificate, and no exhibitor shall be permitted to show more than two entries in any one lot.

 5. Exhibitors must keep their stock, stalls and pens in good, neat condition and be open for inspection from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

 6. Calves under two months old at the time of exhibition will be ineligible for competition.

 7.  All animals under exhibition shall be shown to the judges under the supervision of the respective superintendents.

 8.  In all cases for registered stock, animals over one year shall be accompanied by certificate of registry, showing that the animal is properly registered in the studbook, herdbook or flockbook, which is recognized as being authentic for the breed which the animal is supposed to represent.

 9.  Purebred animals under one year of age shall not be required to show certificate of registry, but the exhibitor of such animal shall be required to give a certified statement that both sire and the dam of such animal are properly registered, purebreds.

 10. No animal can be taken out before 6:00 p.m. on the last day of the Fair without permission from the secretary.

 11. No one under 18 years of age will be permitted to show stallions.

 12. All booths and livestock stalls must be completely cleaned at the end of the fair before premiums will be paid.

  

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

 

   -    Livestock or poultry known by the exhibitor to have an infectious, communicable disease or to have been exposed to an infectious, communicable disease or to be from a quarantined herd or flock may not be entered in the exhibition.

   -   The Official Veterinarian will make general health examinations of all livestock and poultry on the day of entry.

   -  All tests must be conducted prior to the exhibition and a record of the test results on a test chart shall accompany the tested animals.

   - Poultry origin must be listed on the official forms.

 Inspection: All livestock will be inspected by the Official Veterinarian on the opening date of the exhibition and daily during the exhibition. The Official Veterinarian will order the immediate removal to a quarantine facility or removal from the exhibition premises of any livestock with symptoms of infectious or communicable diseases.   This includes livestock with warts or ring worm.

 

 HORSES

 

All horses exhibited must be accompanied by a negative coggins test certificate or official health certificate indicating a negative coggins test within twelve months of entry to the fairgrounds. Papers must be presented at the time of registration and present on the grounds entry day for inspection.

 

DOGS

 

If over six months of age must be accompanied by a certificate of rabies vaccination issued by a licensed veterinarian. 1) Modified live virus vaccines accepted for 36 months. 2) Trimune, Biorab, Rabguard-TC, Trirab and Deta- Rab, Imrab and Rabvac 3 accepted for 12 months.

 

SHEEP  GOAT

 

Sheep and Goats exhibited must bear an official ID which includes the flock scrapie eradication program number and must be individually identified. This identification may be tags or tattoos but must be unique to each animal. Owners must provide their scrapie eradication program premise number to the superintendent at entry.

 

   POULTRY

Poultry must either originate from flocks free of the following diseases or be tested and identified by individual leg bands prior to but not more than 90 days from entry. An official form must accompany each entry either an official test sheet with individual leg band numbers identified or a hatchery certificate that parent stock have tested negative within the past 12 months.
